Terms of use
Version 1.2, in force from
- Who runs it
- Ordinary Nerds, L.L.C., a Delaware limited liability company, runs Slapwars at slapwars.lol. Contact: hello@slapwars.lol.
- What a slap buys
- A place on the wall until it is covered or scraped. A slap is final: it stays where it lands, and anything can land on it.
- The cleaner
- Once a week, at Sunday 20:00 UTC, the cleaner may scrape the wall: by default only when the open wall is at least 60% covered, taking stickers up more than 48 hours and keeping the newest 40. A scraped sticker's page and link keep working.
- What isn't allowed
- Anything illegal, hateful or sexual, passing for someone else, malware, phishing and scams, and names, links or logos you have no right to use. Slaps spent on a sticker taken down for breaking the rules aren't refunded, except a spot week, refunded for the days it wasn't up.
- Age
- At least 16 to use Slapwars, and at least 18 to pay for anything on it.
- Refunds
- Unused paid credit is refunded on request within 30 days of buying it, to the card it was paid with. Granted credit is never refunded.
A summary. The text below is what applies.
Who runs this
Slapwars (slapwars.lol) is run by Ordinary Nerds, L.L.C., a Delaware limited liability company doing business as Slapwars, named in full on the imprint. Where these terms say "we" or "us", that is who they mean.
Using the wall means agreeing to these terms, to the acceptable use rules, and to the way the copyright page handles complaints. What we do with data is on the privacy page.
How old you have to be
You must be at least 16 to use Slapwars, and at least 18 to pay for anything on it: credit, a bid on a spot or a blast. If you're paying with someone else's card, you need their permission first. If we learn a sticker belongs to someone under 16, we take it down, and refund anything they paid for to the card it came from.
What goes on a sticker
Every sticker links a website, and it must be one you run or have the right to promote. You may only put up a name, link and logo you have the right to use. What isn't allowed is on the acceptable use page: in short, nothing illegal, hateful or sexual (adult sites included), no passing for someone else, no links to malware, phishing or scams or through link shorteners, and no scripts, bots or tricks to get round the wall's limits.
What you put on a sticker is public. You keep whatever rights you have in your own logo and name. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to store, resize, re-encode and show them — on the wall, on your sticker's page, in the directory, in the archive of past walls and in the share images — for as long as the sticker exists, and to keep them afterwards only as long as the privacy page says.
How we moderate
Names and links pass a word filter, every link is checked against our blocklist, Google's malware and phishing lists and Cloudflare's family filter, and logos may be held until a person has looked at them. We may refuse a name or link, hold a logo, take any sticker, link, logo or page off the wall, block a domain from being linked, and block a network, at any time and without notice, when we think it breaks these terms or the law.
Taking a sticker down hides it; it doesn't delete the record behind it, and what you paid stays counted as yours. Slaps already spent on a sticker taken down for breaking the rules aren't refunded. When we take something down we tell its owner why, as far as we can reach them — there's no account here, so that means by email when the account has an address on it. If you think we got it wrong, write to us at the address on the imprint and a person will look again.
If we stop you using Slapwars altogether, unused paid credit is refunded on request to the card it came from, however long ago it was bought, unless the payment behind it was fraudulent or is being disputed. Granted credit (below) simply ends.
Nothing on the wall is permanent
A slap is final: it stays where it lands, and anything can land on it. Once a week, at Sunday 20:00 UTC, the cleaner may scrape the wall. By default it runs only when the open wall is at least 60% covered, and then takes stickers that have been up more than 48 hours, keeping the newest 40 whatever their age. A scraped sticker moves to the archive of past walls; its page and link keep working. No position on the wall lasts any set time, except a spot for the week you won it.
Credit
Paid slaps come out of credit, bought in packs or any whole-dollar amount from $5. No balance goes past $200. Credit is a prepaid balance for use on Slapwars only: it isn't money, it earns nothing, it can't be transferred, and it is never cashed out.
Unused paid credit is refunded on request within 30 days of buying it, to the card it was paid with. Write to the support address on the imprint.
Credit spent on a holographic finish or a slap has bought something delivered the moment you buy it, so it is not refunded, except where the law where you live says otherwise or the thing you bought did not work.
Granted credit is credit we give you rather than credit you bought — a make-good, a promotion. It is spent before paid credit, it is never refunded or paid out, and we may take back any of it still unspent. It never counts as spend: it doesn't grow your sticker or rank you.
Offers. From time to time we run an offer that adds bonus credit to a top-up — for example matching your first one. The bonus is granted credit: it has no cash value, isn't refundable, is spent first, and is given only for a top-up started while the offer is running, up to the limit the wallet shows. If you're refunded for a top-up that earned a bonus, the bonus is withdrawn, and any of it already spent comes out of the refund. An offer can end at the time stated, and we may end one early.
Past $200 of spending in 24 hours (the default), every further purchase asks you to confirm again. That's there to protect you.
Each site you slap as from one browser is its own owner, with its own credit. Credit doesn't move between them.
Blasts
A blast (currently $250) is paid by card at checkout, never out of credit. Blasts go off one at a time: one bought while another is running waits its turn. Nothing is deleted by a blast and the spots aren't touched. A blast is delivered the moment it goes off, so once it has, it isn't refundable — the checkout says so before you pay. If it can't go off at all (say, because your sticker was taken down in between), we refund it.
The spots
Each spot is a weekly auction, opening at $500 / $250 / $100. A bid is a hold on your card for that amount, not a charge. You're charged only if yours is the top bid when the auction closes (Sunday 20:00 UTC, later if a late bid extends it). If someone outslaps you, your hold is released at once and you're never charged. How fast a released hold disappears from your statement is up to your bank.
There's no maximum bid. The only ceiling is the most Stripe will take in one payment, $999,999. Bid what you mean to pay: if you win, you pay it.
The winner's sticker holds the spot for the week after the close. Nobody can buy it out in between, so the week isn't refunded once it starts, unless we take the sticker down — then we refund the days it wasn't up.
Paying
Payments are taken by Stripe, on Stripe's own pages or, for Apple Pay and Google Pay, with Stripe's own buttons in the wallet. We never see or hold your card number; for a bid on a spot we keep only the card's last four digits, shown to you alone. Paying also means agreeing to Stripe's terms for that payment.
Prices are set in US dollars. For credit and blasts Stripe may show you the price in your own currency, converted by Stripe; bids are always held and charged in dollars. Your bank may add its own foreign-exchange fee. We are not registered for VAT, GST or US sales tax at the time of this version, and no tax is added at checkout.
If a payment looks wrong, ask us first. Write to the support address on the imprint and we'll sort it out — it's faster than your bank. If you dispute a payment with your bank instead: While a dispute is open we may freeze the credit it paid for and take down the stickers it paid for. If the dispute is decided for you, the payment is gone and so is what it bought; if it is decided for us, we put things back.
If you're a consumer in the EU or the UK
You have a legal right to withdraw from a purchase within 14 days without giving a reason. Our refund on unused credit runs 30 days, which is longer. For something delivered straight away — a slap, a holographic finish, a blast — the right ends once it has been fully delivered, if you asked for it to start at once and acknowledged that you'd lose the right. For a spot, if you withdraw after your week has started, we refund the part of the week that hasn't run. To withdraw, write to the support address on the imprint; a clear statement is enough.
Links and pages
Links go out through Slapwars with rel="noopener nofollow". A click out is counted at most once per network per sticker an hour, or once every ten minutes for a spot; the link itself works every time. Search engines may index a company page once it has a live link, a description from its site and a shelf, whatever its owner spent. Nothing on a company page is sold: spending on the wall unlocks two perks for all of that owner's pages, a direct link on a domain you've verified, marked sponsored, and an AI profile, at $19 and $49 of paid spend (the defaults). An indexed page unlocked before 7 October stays indexed. Only credit you paid for and then spent counts, blasts included; granted credit, offer bonuses and spot bids don't. Once unlocked, a perk stays, even if we raise its amount later, unless your paid spend falls back under the amount you reached it at, through a refund or a dispute of money already spent, or a slap you peeled back off. An upsell bought before this version is kept the same way, at what it cost you in paid credit. None of them promises traffic, ranking or placement in any search engine or AI tool.
Your sticker and getting it back
There's no sign-up: your sticker belongs to the browser that made it. To get it back on another device, keep the recovery link, verify your domain, or keep an email address on it: all three are under "Sign-in and recovery" in Settings (/settings/recovery). Without one of those, a cleared browser means a lost sticker, and we can't tell you apart from anyone else to give it back.
Anyone holding your recovery link is you, as far as the wall can tell — look after it like a password. And because the account follows a verified domain, whoever controls that domain later can recover the account that verified it.
Complaining about a sticker
If a sticker infringes your copyright or your trade mark, impersonates you or is illegal where you are, write to the address on the imprint (copyright notices have their own page). Tell us which sticker you mean — its /s/ link — why, and how to reach you. We look at every notice and tell you what we did.
What we don't promise
Slapwars is provided as it is and as available. As far as the law allows, we don't promise the wall will be up, that it will be free of faults, that your sticker will be seen by anyone, that it will bring you visitors, customers or search ranking, or that it will still be there tomorrow — the cleaner guarantees the opposite.
Other people's stickers and the sites they link to are theirs. We check links, but we don't vouch for anywhere you end up after clicking.
If something goes wrong
As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, or for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you for anything to do with Slapwars is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose and US$100.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't let us limit, and nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live.
If you break these terms or the law with what you put on the wall, and someone makes a claim against us because of it, you'll cover our reasonable costs of that claim, as far as the law allows.
Which law, and where
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and disputes go to the state and federal courts located in Delaware. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, and you may bring a claim in your own courts where that law lets you.
Getting in touch
Refunds, payments, anything about your own sticker, and formal notices: hello@slapwars.lol, or by post to the address on the imprint. We aim to answer within 5 working days; legal and abuse notices within 2.
Changes
A material change is announced on the site at least 30 days before it takes effect, and every version shows its number and the date it took effect. Smaller fixes (a typo, a clearer sentence) take effect when published. A change never reaches back to money already paid or a spot already won. If you don't agree with a change, stop using the wall before it takes effect and ask for unused paid credit back.
